A finish and some progress

The daughter of one of my good friends in Australia had a baby boy last year and of course I had to make a quilt for the little bundle of joy. As the nursery's colour scheme is kept in grey, yellow and white naturally the quilt had to be in those colours too. We haven't had good weather lately, so the pictures are a bit dull.

I've included some prairie points as little fingers love to play with something. The animals and circles are raw edge appliquéd and I have added a layer of batting to the back. After the applique was done, I carefully cut the excess batting away, which resulted in a sort of trapunto effect.

I've also finally finished the last block for The Aunt's quilt.

and here are all the blocks together, only the border triangles to do now. As I've mentioned before I'm using wash away paper for the applique but I decided that I don't like it. I think I will stick with the old needle turn method from now on.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Cheers
Vreni x

Oh my, that baby quilt is adorable! What is the pattern? That would be fun to make. As for the applique, at least you tried something new, even if you didn't like it.

These are both so beautiful. The soft lovely baby animal's quilt in gray and yellow and the wonderful elaborate applique.

Liebe Vreni,
LG Katharina

Very nice! I did a yellow/grey/black quilt a while ago and your reminded me of how much I enjoyed working with those colors. And the applique project is fabulous.

Your Aunts quilt applique blocks are delightful - looking so fresh and pretty laid out among the piecing! I've not tried the wash away but interesting that you have gone back to needleturn - the tried and true method is often the best :)

What a lucky baby! Love the gray and yellow and black combo too. The animal fabrics seem to be perfectly matched to the animal. Nice idea to put on the prairie points for little fingers.

Your Aunt's quilt is going to be gorgeous. So much work but worth the effort.

Great to see your baby quilt as the fabric choice was perfect for the room colours and like the appliqué animals. I am interested to hear your comments on the wash away appliqué paper and pleased that needle turn is your preferred option. Your quilt is coming together nicely. I hope you are enjoying the cold and it is not too much as it is your first 'real' winter.

What a gorgeous baby quilt! Was it from a pattern or did you make it up?

I love the last block!!! So pretty.
And the baby quilt, so sweet :-)

The baby quilt is gorgeous and a lovely colour palette. I think needle turn applique is still the best way. Your blcks are coming together nicely.

Dann müsstest du jetzt ja in "meiner" Gegend wohnen :-) !! Herzliche Grüsse, Barbara
