First I made a pattern (I know, it looks like a five year old's drawing)
then I cut out all the fabric pieces
and this is how it looks sewn together. There were quite a number of Y-seams which was a learning experience on its own.
I'm going to quilt it with some embroidery floss to give it a some texture. Depending on how it turns out, I might use it for "Another Little Quilt Swap 6" which I have signed up for again.
And as is my wont, I had to play with the leftover scraps. Although it's made completely randomly, I think I might like this one better. "Not my cup of tea" was DH comment after I showed him. Oh well, it's good to try something new and out of one's comfort zone, don't you agree?
Have a good week ahead!

Hallo Vreni,
ja, der 2. gefällt mir auch ein kleines bisschen besser, wegen der Auflockerung mit den Dreiecken.
Bin gespannt aufs Quilt-Ergebnis.
LG Doris
It looks modern to me, not that I am an expert. I can't wait to see it all quilted!
Looks like your stab in the dark hit a bullseye! Modern, interesting and lovely! :) Hugs!
It's very...."styloso"(we say so in Italy). It's looks like a modern picture in an art gallery! I'm not very ...artist and the color theory is very hard for me but I hope, in a future, to make a modern colorfull quilt!
Go on....
It's your quilt Vreni and your rules so do what pleases you. Sometimes you can be very surprised by the results. It looks pretty good to me and the quilting will further enhance it. My husband actually tried to tell me the other day how he would tackle putting something together - bless. Says he who has never even held a sewing needle let alone used one!!! I think he was trying to be helpful.
Well done!
I think I like the leftover scraps one more and I think it's because of the HST's as they give a point of interest by being a different shape. The colours are more evenly distributed also and I have a bit of a 'thing' about balance but art is in the eye of the beholder and there will be others who prefer the original design to the 'leftovers' one.
Cheers,
Robyn
I think it's going to be wonderful, the texture of some thread will transform it and then I'm sure you'll love it. Good for you trying new things.
It looks wonderful, what a fabulous first art quilt.
Very Clever Vreni! I had to chuckle at your hubby's reaction -- sounds like something my hubby might say!
Liebe Vreni
Oh..... das sieht ja herrlich aus! Diese Farben - ein Traum!
Herzlichst grüsst Dich Yvonne
You better not underestimate yourself! Whatever comes out of your hands looks always colourful, colour balanced and often has a delicious taste too! ;) xxx
Formal art education or not, you have really come up with a beautiful quilt...or I should say...two beautiful quilts!!! I enjoy your process!!
Beautiful!
I love the 2nd one. Also love the way you are doing the quilting - very modern. Looks like fun and that is what counts.
